In this powerful scene from The Chosen, the disciples find themselves caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee. In the darkness and fear of the night, they suddenly see Jesus walking toward them on the water. What first appears frightening becomes a moment of revelation as Jesus calls out to them and invites Peter to step out of the boat and come to Him. This scene is based on the Gospel account in Matthew 14.
Peter steps onto the waves and begins walking toward Jesus. But when he notices the strength of the wind and the storm around him, fear begins to overwhelm his faith and he starts to sink. In desperation he cries out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reaches out His hand and catches him.
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:31
This moment reveals both the power and the compassion of Christ. The miracle is not only that Jesus walks on the water, but that He reaches out to Peter in the middle of his fear and weakness. The same Lord who commands the waves also holds His disciples when their faith falters.
As you watch this scene, take time to reflect on the storms we face in our own lives. When our eyes are fixed on Christ, faith grows stronger. And even when fear causes us to stumble, Jesus is still near, ready to take us by the hand and lift us up again.
