In this powerful scene from The Chosen, we witness the moment when Jesus performs the miraculous catch of fish recorded in Luke 5. After a long and exhausting night of fishing with no success, Simon Peter and the others are ready to give up. Yet Jesus asks them to cast their nets once more into the deep waters. When they obey, the nets fill with such a great number of fish that they begin to break.
Overwhelmed by the miracle, Simon Peter realises that he is standing in the presence of someone far greater than himself. He falls before Jesus and says, “Depart from me, Lord; for I am a sinful man.” In that moment, Peter begins to understand both the power of Jesus and his own need for grace.
Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch people.
Luke 5:10
This miracle is not only about provision but also about calling. Through this moment, Jesus invites Peter and the other fishermen to leave their nets and follow Him. Their ordinary work becomes the setting for an extraordinary invitation: to become fishers of people and to take part in God’s greater purpose.
As you watch this scene, take a moment to reflect on how Jesus often meets people in the ordinary places of life. He calls us not because we are perfect, but because He is able to transform our lives and give them a deeper purpose.
